Advocacy & Outreach
A lot of my charity work, advocacies, and outreach programmes are to do with helping our youth, our tamariki, our children. I wholeheartedly believe that the youth are our future, and by providing them with resources, knowledge, and aiding them in hardship (whether this be poverty or low self-esteem), they are and will be better equiped to grow in our world, and be confident in who they are. So that they may become engulfed in their interests without fear, that they may become our next problem-solvers, and uphold a society of innovation, diversity, and inclusion. Because the kindness we show them, the knowledge we teach them, and the confidence we in still in them will multiply.

Breakfast & Entrepreneurship Outreach & Talks
Over the last month and a half, I've recently started doing "Breakfast & Entrepreneurship" outreach events and talks to primary and intermediate aged students throughout schools in New Zealand, including Monte Cecilia Primary School, and Henderson North Primary School . In which I catered to these children's hunger for knowledge served with a nutritious breakfast. During these talks, I shared my journey as a young entrepreneur from starting my business 'Slime Princess' and as beauty queen. I wanted the kids to see that no matter where you come from, you can achieve great things with hard work and determination. I’ve faced my share of challenges, but every obstacle has shaped me into who I am today. It was important for me to show them that embracing our differences, our uniqueness - whether this be their hobbies, interests (slime or other), and cultures & ethnicities - makes us stronger.
I am so blessed to have the opportunity to contribute to the community, to inspire and empower these Kiwi kids to believe in themselves, embrace their differences, and empower them to make their mark on the world. Like I tell them, as I close my talks, to repeat after me: "I am smart. I am unique. I am capable." They are all those things.

Debutante & Charity Ball
Last month, for my 18th birthday - my debut, I hosted a Debutante & Charity Ball for the benefit of the street children and orphans in the Phillipines.Instead of receiving gifts for my birthday, I asked my friends and family to purchase a “ticket,” that would go towards an advocacy you all know I am deeply passionate about.
From this fundraising, one of the four charities who will benefit is SCOT Foundation. The first time I encountered poverty, orphaned, and street children, was when I was 5 years old at one of the SCOT Foundation centres in the Philippines. My mum told me that when she was explaining to little Katharina about what orphans are, and how many of the street children lived, I couldn’t stop crying. From that first encounter, I developed a passion for helping kids, especially disadvantaged kids.
It is genuinely so rewarding that my debutante and my other charity work under @kanoraunewzealand’s Miss Asia-Pacific International New Zealand pageant, has been with SCOT Foundation.
Thank you to my amazing guests, donors, supporters, family and friends, for making this night so memorable, not just for us who celebrated, but for the positive impact we have on these kids. I hope we can continue to see the good in the little things in life we have, like the orphans and street children do with what they have.
Anawim Elderly Outreach
Earlier this year, in April, I spent the morning with the lovely grannies, where we shared a meal, sang and danced, and just created a happy moment for all to enjoy. Whilst, my advocacies lay mainly with growing our future, our rangatahi, our youth. I believe it is important to remember, acknowledge, and spend time with those who have come before us. Doing this not only allows us to gain deeper understanding of past and present values, but a connection to our heritages. Congratulations Anawim for the work that you do. It has always been a pleasure for my family and I over the years to help you “provide a home, a sanctuary, to those poor and abandoned elderly who have nowhere else to go.”

Beauty & Beyond: A women's lifestyle event
In May, I was invited as a Keynote speaker for the "Beauty & Beyond: A women's lifestyle event" at the Ellen Melville Centre, Auckland CBD.
I spoke to an audience about breaking stereotypes as a women, and ways that women are able to involve themselves into discussion that shapes our future; ways to manage mental health in our society; and empowered them to be who they are and get involved in advocacy.

Volunteering with kids in Aotearoa
Recently, I've been increasing the amount of volunteer work with kids in Aotearoa. In which I help them and motivate them in simple activites, and talk to them to work through challenges they may face. For example, in a cupcake making workshop I volunteered in, I explained to the kids that through their mistakes or mishaps during making their cupcakes, we'll solve it together. Just like in life, though our cupcakes don't come out or are made perfectly, or exactly the same, doesn't mean their cupcake is bad. If anything, just means it's gone through a special journey to get to their desired outcome - decorations and all.

What we did through
"Help me, help them"
In Janurary 2024, I travelled to the Philippines to visit, entertain and to give aid to four organisations, in outreach programmes. One of my personal advocacies has been to and is to work with street children and orphans in the Philippines. I have been involved in this area since I was five years old. Given the privilege of representing Kiwis and Filipinos, as the reigning Miss Philippines-New Zealand 2023, I asked the support of fellow NZers and Kiwi-noys to create moments of happiness, foster a sense of belonging, and offer hope to those in need. Via providing them with toiletries, school supplies, meals, basic clothing, and toys.
Read below to see and hear what our collective kindness did for the children in these organisations + what our outreaches were like!
He Cares Foundation
The Center takes care of 150 street children, offering five programs that cater to the children’s spirituality, health, family, life, education, and livelihood.
What they received:
During our visit, with the help of your generous donations, we were able to feed 300 street children on the 20th of January 2024. They each enjoyed a home cooked meal of chicken curry, rice, fried chicken, watermelon, and bananas. We conducted our outreach programme during the morning feeding programme, in which we played several games, each round a child winning a prize (pencil case, etc.)
Since He Cares Foundation is focused on education, striving to get the kids to complete high-school and attend university, they had a large need for school supplies. Thus, our care packages were cater to that need giving 150 kids in the morning feeding programme:
-
Notebook
-
Pack of crayons
-
Colouring pencils
-
Eraser
-
Scissors
-
Ruler
-
Packed in custom "Beauty is within" tote bag.
